County Stage Company launches an innovative arts program for Canadian military members, Veterans, and their families in collaboration with the True Patriot Love Foundation.

Picton, ON – County Stage Company is introducing About Face, an exciting new arts initiative designed to enhance the lives of Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, and their families.

About Face is a free, fun and interactive six-week Workshop Series created exclusively for Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans and their families, featuring guest artists in Prince Edward County. 

Starting in September, About Face will kick off with two Series Launch Events featuring Canadian comedy icons Colin Mochrie and Debra McGrath, along with beloved local musician, Andy Forgie.

Following the launch events, a six-week Workshop Series is scheduled for Sundays in October and November. The series will give participants an opportunity to explore various art forms, including storytelling, improv, music and theatre. Each session is facilitated by the project coordinator who will open with a check-in and close with reflection.

The core objective of this program is to nurture overall well-being within the military community by providing a dedicated space for creative exploration.

Thanks to the support of the True Patriot Love Foundation the About Face program is offered free of charge to eligible participants aged 16 and above.

An evening of hilarity starring Canada's favourite comedy duo, Colin Mochrie & Deb McGrath, followed by a Q and A session about their journey as actors and improv performers and conversation examining the art of living in the moment and the catharsis of laughter. Further highlights of the About Face exclusive fall workshop series will also be presented.

This six-week program is intimate and interactive. Each Sunday, participants explore various art forms including music, comedy/improv, theatre and storytelling. These workshops are an opportunity to try something new and creative while connecting with others and building community. The workshops will be hosted by stellar guest artists who will inspire and ignite and therapeutic support will also be offered to guide participants through conversation and reflection. Lunch will be provided. Maximum 12 participants.

 

The program is free to all Armed Forces members, Veterans and family members aged 16 and over. No previous arts experience is needed. Registration is required.

About Face Team

Currently entering his seventh season as the Artistic Director of County Stage, Graham Abbey has extensive experience as a leading performer and director in this country, as well as a teacher of performing arts. Graham has spent 24 seasons as a leading actor and director at The Stratford Festival of Canada.

During his tenure at Stratford, Graham has worked extensively with the education department helping to create and implement teaching modules and programs which have been used internationally for Shakespearean performance. Graham has also served as a professor in the drama department at the University of Toronto and was the Creative Director of GhostLight, an online teaching platform he created for artists during the Covid-19 lockdown. In 2020 Graham was recognized by Now Magazine as one of the top ten artists of the year.

Karen Williamson is a trauma-informed mental health practitioner, Karen with 12 years’ experience working in immersive healing environments with those who have experienced trauma related to adverse childhood experiences, sexual abuse, military experiences, grief and loss, as well as those coping with symptoms and diagnoses of mental illness and addiction.

Karen has strong working relationships with local resources including the Enrichment Centre for Mental Health, Sexual Assault Centre of Quinte and District, Paths of Courage Healing Centre, and Canadian Mental Health Association Addictions and Mental Health Services.

About Face Schedule

The program is free to all Armed Forces members, Veterans and family members aged 16 and over. No previous arts experience is needed. Registration is required.
